Cosmetics-Formulation, Manufacturing and Quality Control

As the title suggests the book has information on formulation, manufacture and quality control of cosmetics. The book has 11 parts and 59 chapters. Part I has information on regulatory provisions, plant layout, different processes used, most commonly used raw materials in the manufacture of cosmetics and control of microbial contamination. Part II has chapters on different preparations for skin including colour cosmetics like creams, lotions, tonics, antiperspirants and deodorants, skin powders, lipsticks and has information on formulation & manufacturing methods. Part III has chapters on cosmetics for the hair like shampoos, hair tonics, hair dyes, depilatories etc. with information on formulation and manufacturing methods. Part IV has chapters on cosmetics for the eyes like eye shadows, eyeliners, mascara with information on formulation and manufacturing methods. Part V has chapters on cosmetics for the nails like cuticle creams, nail bleaches, nail lacquers and finger nail elongaters with their formulations and method of manufacture. Part VI has chapters on cosmetics for the teeth like toothpowders, toothpastes and mouthwashes with their formulations and method of manufacture. Part VII has chapters on cosmetics for vulnerable i.e. cosmetics for babies, cosmetics for elderly and cosmetics for persons having allergy to certain chemicals. Part VIII has chapters on miscellaneous cosmetics i.e. aerosol cosmetics, herbal cosmetics and patch cosmetics with their formulation and manufacturing methods. Part IX has chapters on essential oils and aroma chemicals and different types of perfumes and fragrances with their formulation and method of manufacture. Part X has chapters on toilet soaps i.e. chemistry of fats and oils, manufacture of soaps and toilet soaps and bathing bars. Part XI has chapters on quality control of cosmetics including standards of cosmetic raw materials and finished products, skin sensitization testing, in-vitro testing of cosmetics (without use of animals), and stability testing of cosmetics. The book has four useful appendices having information on machinery manufacturers and cosmetic raw material manufacturers

P P Sharma

Shri. P.P. Sharma is B.Pharm (BITS, Pilani) and M.Pharm (Punjab University). He has been Rank Holder both at Graduate Level and Post Graduate Level and was awarded Gold Medal by Punjab University. After a short stint with Pharmaceutical Industry, he joined Drugs Control Dept. of Delhi Govt. where he worked in various capacities and retired as Dy. Drugs Controller and Licensing Authority. During his Professional career he had opportunities for training by Govt. of India and International Bodies like WHO and DANIDA. His approach to enforcement of law was enforcement by education and this led him to write books. He has 06 books to his credit. He is faculty to various training programmes of Govt. of India and guest faculty to several pharmacy educational institutions. He is recipient of several National Awards notably, Best Drugs Control Officer Award, K C Chatterjee Memorial Award, IPGA Lifetime Achievement Award. Know him more by reading his books.
